Course Summary

Rigging work is undertaken in the mining, construction and other industries where loads shifting equipment is used to move, place or secure loads. This is course provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely perform rigging work.
Riggers use mechanical load shifting equipment and associated gear to move, place or secure loads, including plant, equipment or members of a structure. Riggers ensure the stability of those members and set up and dismantle hoists.
This unit applies to rigging work involving:

  • structural steel erection

  • hoists

  • pre-cast concrete members of a structure

  • safety nets and static lines

  • mast climbing work platforms

  • perimeter safety screens and shutters

  • cantilevered crane loading platforms.

Candidate requirements

  • Must hold current Dogmans Licence. A copy should be provided to the Trainer.

  • Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language

  • Must be over 18 years of age

  • Must bring 2 forms of ID (1 x photo ID, 1 x other ID). Photo ID may include drivers licence, passport, proof of age card. Non-photo ID may include credit card, bank card, medicare card

  • Must have good general health and fitness for practicals (eg. physical work)

  • Must have basic mathematical skills and knowledge to work out formulas

  • Must wear long sleeved shirt, long leg pants and steel cap boots

Due to the cost of running the rigging course, it is essential to meet the min students of 6. If this isn't reached, you will be contacted 5 days prior and rescheduled.

Note:

Desert to Coast Training and Assessing is currently in the process of adding the above unit to our scope of practice. These units were previously assessed through a third party agreement with NRTAFE (RTO 52788) but will be unavailable until our scope has been updated.
