Eligible WA construction workers and employers may be able to reduce training costs through the WA Government’s Construction Training Fund (CTF). The CTF offers rebates on approved short courses and employer grants that help offset apprentice/trainee training costs. Check eligibility and how to claim via the CTF’s site.

Course Summary

The BWTM will allow you to implement traffic management plans. However, in order to control traffic and be qualified for most jobs in the industry, you will need to do the Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Control course (BWTM & TC).

In this course, you will cover everything in the BWTM (reading, interpreting and implementing traffic management plans). But on top of that, we will go through the conduct of on-site manual traffic control using a Stop-Slow bat and Portable Traffic control devices. This will be a four-day course.

Course Outcomes

On completion, you will receive your Main Roads WA accreditation card and certificate (valid for three years) along with a nationally recognised statement of attainment for:

  • RIIWHS201E Work Safely and Follow WHS Policies and Procedures
  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the Workplace
  • RIIWHS302E Implement Traffic Management Plans
  • RIIWHS205E Control traffic with Stop-Slow Bat
  • RIIWHS206 Control traffic with Portable traffic control devices and temporary signs
  • RIIWHS303 Position, set up and program portable traffic devices

Candidate requirements

  • Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language
  • Must have good general health and fitness for practicals (eg. physical work)
  • Must hold a USI (unique student identifier) number. Click here for further information: http://www.usi.gov.au
  • Must hold a valid White Card
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

When enrolling for our courses you have to complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.

    This unit involves workplace communication. Learners should be prepared to participate in group discussions and practical communication tasks.
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
    This unit introduces workplace health and safety practices. Learners should be prepared to engage with hazard identification and safety procedures.
  • RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat
    This unit involves controlling workplace hazards. Learners should be capable of recognising risks and following safety procedures in operational environments.
  • RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plans
    This unit includes responding to local emergencies. Learners should be able to manage stress and follow instructions in time-sensitive situations.
  • RIIWHS206 Control traffic with Portable traffic control devices and temporary signs
    This unit includes responding to local emergencies. Learners should be able to manage stress and follow instructions in time-sensitive situations.
  • RIIWHS303 Position, set up and program portable traffic devices
    This unit includes responding to local emergencies. Learners should be able to manage stress and follow instructions in time-sensitive situations.
