Course Summary
Driving tasks are undertaken with limited supervision, requiring a strong sense of responsibility and duty of care for both personal safety and the safety of others while achieving the expected outcomes.
A motor vehicle that has 3 or more axles and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) greater than 8 tonnes.
Gearbox Options
- Automatic Gearbox: A fully automatic transmission that changes gears automatically without driver input. It offers ease of driving and is often preferred for urban and long-distance driving.
- Synchromesh Gearbox: A type of manual gearbox that uses synchronisers to smoothly match gear speeds during shifting. Common in medium to large trucks, it provides precise control and durability.
- Road Ranger Gearbox: A heavy-duty manual transmission, typically used in large commercial trucks. Drivers have to use double de-clutching—a technique involving disengaging and re-engaging the clutch during gear changes—to ensure smooth gear shifts and reduce wear on the transmission.
Training Duration
- HR-A: Typically done in one day
- HR-B: Typically done over two days
- HR-RR (HR Open Class): Typically done over three days
Candidate requirements
- Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language
- Must be over 18 years of age
- Must have good general health and fitness for practicals (eg. physical work)
- C (Car) class licence for at least two (2) years; or
- LR (Light Rigid) class licence for at least one (1) year; or
- MR (Medium Rigid) class licence for at least one (1) year.
When enrolling for our courses you have to complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
