
Course Summary
PTCD training is now mandatory in WA for anyone who has a current Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) qualification and is issued the Main Roads Traffic Controller (TC) accreditation.
It will be integrated into the combined Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) and Traffic Controller (TC) training course, including refresher courses.
PTCD training ensures that all Traffic Controllers are fully trained and competent in using Portable Traffic Control Devices (PTCDs). It also:
- Simplifies auditing of site accreditations.
- Supports further expansion of devices and removal of TC's from the roadway.
The training includes the following units of competency:
- RIIWHS206 – _Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs
- RIIWHS303 – Position, set-up and program portable traffic control devices
Candidate requirements
- Must hold a current BWTM qualification
- Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language
- Must have good general health and fitness for practicals (eg. physical work)

- Must hold a valid White Card
- Must be at least 18 years of age
When enrolling for our courses you have to complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.

RIIWHS206 - Control traffic with Portable traffic control devices and temporary signs
This unit includes responding to local emergencies. Learners should be able to manage stress and follow instructions in time-sensitive situations.
RIIWHS303 - Position, set up and program portable traffic devices
This unit includes responding to local emergencies. Learners should be able to manage stress and follow instructions in time-sensitive situations.
