Course Summary
EWP work is conducted in mining, construction and other industries where jobs are hard to reach and require machinery to reach it. This course provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely operate a boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP) where the length of the boom is 11 metres or more in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements.
Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate this plant.
EWP’s are either a telescoping device, an articulated device, a hinged device, or any combination of these, used to support a platform on which material, equipment and personnel may be uplifted.
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Understand relevant OHS Regulations, Australian Standards, legislation and the duty of care requirements.
- Select the correct EWP for individual jobs
- Understand hazards associated with the use of an EWP. Safely plan for work involving the use of an EWP. (This includes stability, movement and setting up)
- Conduct pre-operational checks
- Use emergency decent equipment provided with the machine.
- Identify the correct PPE for operating an EWP.
