
Course Summary
The Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Course is a 5-day, comprehensive training program designed to prepare elected HSRs to actively participate in workplace health and safety matters in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA). This course covers the roles and responsibilities of HSRs, rights and duties under the legislation, hazard identification and risk management, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and consultation processes. Participants also learn how to issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and take action to ensure a safer workplace. The course is delivered face-to-face by WorkSafe WA-approved providers and is essential for anyone elected to represent workers’ health and safety interests.
Candidate Requirements
To be eligible for the HSR course, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Elected Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or Deputy HSR for a workplace, or nominated by their workgroup to represent health and safety matters.
- Employed or engaged in the workplace they represent.
- Have a genuine interest in health and safety and a commitment to actively participate in improving workplace safety.
- Basic literacy and communication skills to engage effectively in training and workplace consultation.
- Employers must support the candidate’s attendance and release them from work duties during the training period, as required under the WHS Act.
