Eligible WA construction workers and employers may be able to reduce training costs through the WA Government’s Construction Training Fund (CTF). The CTF offers rebates on approved short courses and employer grants that help offset apprentice/trainee training costs. Check eligibility and how to claim via the CTF’s site.

Course Summary

Confined space permits are used in the mining, construction and other industries where personnel are required to conduct work in areas which meets the confined space criteria listed below. This is course provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely working in a confined space.

Confined space training means an enclosed or partially enclosed space that:

  • is not designed or intended primarily to be occupied by a person; and
  • is, or is designed or intended to be, at normal atmospheric pressure while any person is in the space; and
  • is or is likely to be a risk to health and safety from:
  • an atmosphere that does not have a safe oxygen level, or
  • contaminants, including airborne gases, vapours and dusts, that may cause injury from fire or explosion, or
  • harmful concentrations of any airborne contaminants, or
  • engulfment.

It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Candidate requirements

  • Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Must have good general health and fitness for practicals (eg. physical work)
  • Must have basic mathematical skills and knowledge to work out formulas
  • Must wear long-sleeved shirt, long leg pants and steel cap boots

When enrolling for our courses you have to complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
