
Course Summary
The Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Refresher Course is designed for current HSRs who have completed their initial five-day training and wish to update their skills and knowledge. Under the Work Health and Safety Act, HSRs are entitled to attend refresher training after 12 months have passed since their initial course or previous refresher.
This one-day course reinforces core HSR competencies while providing updates on legislative changes, emerging workplace hazards, and contemporary safety practices. Participants will revisit key consultation processes, risk management frameworks, and their powers and functions as HSRs, ensuring they remain confident and effective in their role.
Candidate Requirements
To be eligible for the HSR course, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Have completed the initial five-day HSR training course
- Be a current elected Health and Safety Representative or Deputy HSR, or nominated by their workgroup to represent health and safety matters
- Be employed or engaged at the workplace they represent
- Employers must support the candidate's attendance and release them from work duties during the training period, as required under the WHS Act
