
Course Summary
This Dogging course is for students looking to acquire the necessary licence to work in the mines or construction industry.
This unit specifies the outcomes required to perform slinging techniques, including the selection and inspection of lifting gear and/or the directing of the crane operator in the movement of the load when the load is out of view of the crane/operator for licensing purposes.
Students will attain the practical application to perform dogging properly and will be able to:
- Obtain site information and elements related to the task.
- Identify hazards and potential hazards associated with the slinging and directing of loads.
- Ensure hazard control measures are consistent with appropriate standards are to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
- Identify and assess the weight, dimensions and centre of gravity of the load.
- Identify suitable lifting/slinging points on the load.
- Assess appropriate lifting equipment needs.
- Assess appropriate communication methods with crane / operators and other appropriate personnel.
- Obtain manufacturer’s specifications/information for special loads where necessary.
Candidate requirements
- Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language
- Must be over 18 years of age
- Must bring 2 forms of ID (1 x photo ID, 1 x other ID). Photo ID may include drivers licence, passport, proof of age card. Non-photo ID may include credit card, bank card, medicare card
- Must have good general health and fitness for practicals (eg. physical work)
- Must have basic mathematical skills and knowledge to work out formulas
- Must wear long sleeved shirt, long leg pants and steel cap boots

When enrolling for our courses you have to complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to: compliance@deserttocoast.com.au
After successful completion of your course you will be issued with a Worksafe Notice of Assessment which will immediately entitle you to perform work until you receive your High Risk Work Licence.
We also issue a Statement of Attainment stating the unit achieved and we process your Worksafe paperwork for you.
In the unlikely event that you fail your assessment, you are welcome to sit in on another class when we have one. You would not have to pay again. Should you choose not to come in again, you are welcome to request that your Fees for registering your High Risk Work Licence, be refunded to you.
